“Social Media, does it really work?” That is what many have asked since social media became so popular. Well, here is one story that will knock your socks off and prove just how well social media does work.
Starbucks has been using social media to increase traffic to their stores. They have “giveaway” days. Recently they gave away a free pastry. They put the information on their Facebook and Twitter pages and it spreads like wildfire in and outside of those communities. In fact, they got one million customers in one day!
They are smart about it though. You have to go to a page on their website to print out a coupon for the pastry. Not only are they dramatically increasing customers in their stores, but they are dramatically increasing their website traffic. Plus, they limit the time – “available until 10:30 am”.
Does social media work? You bet it does. Now you see more and more companies doing “giveaway” days. Ben and Jerry’s have started a giveaway day. The cost is minimal and the return fantastic.
